My Story

I am taking part in the Abseil St Helier on Friday 25 April 2025.

I will be Abseiling down the front of St Helier Hospital to raise funds for Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity and I would love your support.

Funds you donate will provide extra support to our hospitals, over and above what the NHS can deliver on its own- including funding state-of-the-art equipment, refurbishing hospitals and community services facilities and supporting staff health and wellbeing events.

So as most of you know, (partly because I harp on about it) I have a genetic condition and have lots of complications because of it, causing daily symptoms such as pain and nausea, as well as needing iv nutrition and feeding via tubes. (Sob story first to get people interested.)

When I was 12, my health deteriorated, I had lived a fairly normal life up to that point (well I was always a bit weird but normal for me ;) ) hospitals didn't know what was wrong and I spent most of my early teenage years in and out of hospital. When I was 14, I was hospitalised for one year at St. Heliers children's ward (plus two weeks at epsom when they had their windows done...) in this hospitalisation the ward saved my life 6 times when I got infections and became septic. The hospital was limited by the tests available but my doctor kept fighting for me. 

During this admission I watched how the children's ward served the children of its comunity from broken bones to complex medical needs. I watched as they supported families through the worst moments of their lives and supported me through mine. 

So better late then never, I done a thing and joined up for the abseil down St. Helier. I am dfoing it specifically for the childrens ward. (For those who know me I have a fear of hights so this won't be easy- I am already nervous!)
